Benefits of spirulina for horses with sweet itch

The Natural Way - specialised in itching and skin complaints and the natural treatment of sweet itchmud fever and CPL.

Did you know that spirulina is a real superfood for horses, with beneficial properties for the skin? That's why it's also a perfect support for horses with sweet itch. We're happy to tell you why!

The properties of spirulina

Spirulina is a blue-green saltwater algae that is packed with nutrients. These have an anti-inflammatory effect on allergies, such as summer eczema. It also provides support during the moulting period, ideal in combination with linseed.

As a powerful antioxidant (contains chlorophyll, beta-carotene, phycocyanin), spirulina contributes to optimal resistance, liver function, detoxification and muscle building in your horse.

Spirulina is also a source of vitamins (A, B, E and K) and minerals (iron, zinc, calcium, potassium, magnesium, etc.). It also contains vegetable proteins (60%!) and essential fatty acids such as omega 3, which is very good for building, repairing and protecting the skin and coat quality.

A deficiency in omega 3 can be recognised by a dull coat and dry, flaky skin, which is common in horses prone to itching.

A course of treatment or continuous use?

You can add spirulina powder to the drinking water in the form of a mineral buffet. Always make sure your horse has access to fresh drinking water. When you wet spirulina, you can also easily mix it into a feeding bowl with balancer or dried herbs.

Dosage: pony (15 g maintenance - 30 g treatment) or horse (30 g maintenance - 60 g treatment).

Always choose high-quality, organic spirulina.
